Hours of operation:
Thursday-Saturday 12-6
Thanks to a successful charter membership program and with robust community support we are open. We're starting small with limited hours but we will be expanding the inventory in the store each week and when we are able to do so, we will add more days and hours to the store.
We’re so glad you asked! “Good Food” isn’t simply just fruits and vegetables. It is food that is accessible physically and economically. It is optimal for health and nutrition. It promotes dignity and overall well being for a community. However, in our complex food system, not all members of our community have easy access to nutritious, affordable food. Lack of good food disproportionately affects low income and communities of color. Evidence shows that improving access to good food is beneficial for everyone from infants to seniors. A thriving community based food system that values people, the planet and generates profit, is also known as the triple bottom line.
We have formed the Good Food Fund to create more opportunities for fresh food access to our neighbors, to obtain the technology needed to assist this effort, and to create a bridge for neighbors that are interested and able to support ways to get fresh and healthy food to those that lack it. As our organization is able, we will utilize this fund to its maximum effect in our community to invite as many people to the table of good food as we can.
The Gaining Ground Grocery concept is the first initiative and project of the Chattanooga Food Center. We have been hard at work securing a space, funding and paving the way for this grocery to become a reality. Our goal is to bring local and sustainable produce, meats, eggs and more to the Highland Park area of downtown Chattanooga to provide affordable, healthy food for this area. We envision the grocery as a thread in the fabric of the dynamic Highland Park community tapestry and beyond.
We are selling e-giftcards for our grocery store and they would make a wonderful gift to friends and family. Giftcards benefit the store and support our organization and mission to provide food access, education, and engagement for our local food system.
